The Great Gatsby - Chapter 9

In the beginning of the chapter tons of people and reporters and policemen are coming to the house and asking Nick questions. Nick decided to send out a letter to people he thought might come to the funeral. He tries to call Daisy immediately but they have already left and no one knows where they're at. He gets a letter from Henry Gatz telling him to hold off the funeral until he arrives. Henry was Jay's dad and they find a book with Gatsby's schedule and they talk about how proud he is of his son. Nick keeps trying to contact people but no one wants to come pay their respects and Nick is very hurt by that. No one showed up to the service but once they get to the graveyard another man shows up and they talk about how sad it is that so many people came to his parties but they won't even come to his funeral. Nick talks to Jordan and they kind of talk things out. Nick saw Tom in the city walking and Tom turned around to talk to him. Nick asked him why he said that Gatsby killed Myrtle and he said that if he didn't tell him who owned the car he would killed Tom. Nick was upset but they sort of made their peace with each other. As the days went by Nick always went to the city on the weekends because he swore he could still hear the roar of Gatsby's parties. His house was empty and still the same once Nick packed up and moved.
Response: I can't believe that no one showed up to his funeral. Hundreds of people would travel so far to come to his parties. I fell really bad for Gatsby and for Nick. I also wish Daisy would have done something but she probably didn't know until long after. I wish that Tom and Daisy would just break up or stay together because both of them caused all the hurt in this book.
Question: Did Daisy just not do anything for Gatsby's death or did she not know about it until long after?
Comment: I can't believe no one came to Gatsby's funeral.

The Great Gatsby - Chapter 8

In the beginning Nick and Gatsby are talking about whether Gatsby should leave town or not. He talks about the first time him and Daisy met and how their relationship started out. He says how he had to leave her to go to war and when he came back he had to go to Oxford. When he finally made the effort to go see her she was on her honeymoon with Tom. Nick talks to Jordan on the phone and they just argue and hang up. Wilson is upset about his wife's death and wants to find out who killed her. He goes to Gatsby's house and kills him, then kills himself.
Response: Gatsby should have left with Daisy right away. If he loved her so much in the beginning he should have made that extra effort to see her before she got married. Also I can't believe Wilson killed Gatsby when he didn't actually kill Myrtle.
Question: Why didn't Gatsby leave right away?
Comment: Gatsby wasn't even the one who ran over Myrtle!
