Chapter 10 - Red Badge of Courage
Henry was joined by the "tattered soldier" while watching Jim die. The soldier is also wounded and wants to see where Henry is hurt. Since Henry isn't hurt he tries to sneak away from the soldier. The soldier notices and wants him to stay with him. Henry knows that if he leaves him he'll die. He feels bad, but since he isn't hurt he feels like he has to leave. The soldier begs him not to go and he calls him Tom Jamison.
Chapter 9 - Red Badge of Courage
Henry walks around his fallen regimen and sees that most of the men are injured, dead, or dying. He feels like a coward and wishes that he himself had a "red badge of courage." He wishes that he were wounded so that he could go home. He's scared and wants to go home, but then he sees Jim. Jim is dying right in front of him and it upsets. After he watches Jim die very painfully he's motivated. Henry now wants to take out his rage on the battle that killed his friend.

Chapter 8 - Red Badge of Courage
Henry starts heading back to the battle out of the woods. He starts to feel even worse because there are dead people everywhere. Injured men come wandering into the woods. They are falling to the ground dying and Henry feels terrible. A man comes out laughing with a huge wound. He asks Henry where he's injured. So Henry gets away from him because he's freaked out.
Chapter 7 - Red Badge of Courage
Henry hides in the woods, but comes out after he hears cheering. He walks a little ways and sees that it's the Union that held the line. He tries to make himself feel better about running, but it doesn't work. He throws a rock at a squirrel to show that even they run away. Then he walks up on a dead man. He feels terrible and sees ants crawling in his eyes. Now he feels really badly about running away because he saw the dead man.
Chapter 6 - Red Badge of Courage
Henry wakes up the next day feeling great. He is proud of what he's done. He starts thinking about how good of a soldier he is and that he's a great shooter. All of a sudden they are getting shot at by more Confederate soldiers. Before Henry knows it, everyone in his regimen just takes off running. He hesitates and doesn't know what to do. He then drops his gun and just takes of running. He couldn't fight them alone although he didn't want to run. They run as far and as fast as they can.
Chapter 5 - Red Badge of Courage
All of a sudden Confederate soldiers start running towards them. Henry forgets everything and starts to shoot. They kill a lot of people and it's really gross. One of the men tries to run, but he gets beat up. After seeing that Henry is thankful he never decided to run. After all the fighting the Union flag is still standing. Most of the regimen is still alive. They look around and they look around at all the nature. Nature doesn't take notice to all the fighting, it just stays the same.
Chapter 4 - Red Badge of Courage
Henry and his regimen reach the battle. They just stand and watch and try to figure out who is winning. It's really smoky so they can't see very well. They pretty much just see the flags going up and back down. The lieutenant gets shot but he's alright. Once again, Henry starts thinking about whether he'll run or fight. He can't make up his mind whether to run for his life or to fight with honor.

Chapter 3 - Red Badge of Courage
The men are running towards the gun shots. Henry starts to consider whether he said be running to help or just running away. He decides that he'd go with what everyone else is doing. They see their first dead man and now Henry wants to go home. He has another mood swing and decides maybe he should just die and get it over with. But as they get closer to battle he changes his mind and doesn't want to die anymore. Then Wilson hands Henry a packet of letters and tells him to mail them to his family because they thinks that the next battle will be their last.
Chapter 2 - Red Badge of Courage
The extra time before they really go to battle makes Henry go crazy. He can't make up his mind about what he is about to do. Finally they head into battle, but it isn't what they think it is. They are still doing nothing. The men feel as though they will never get to see real battle and want to really badly. They make camp and Henry wishes he were back home. In this chapter we also meet another character named Wilson, called "The Loud Solider". Wilson thinks he hears thunder, but it's really gun shots and the men start running towards it.
Chapter 1 - Red Badge of Courage
Right away we meet Henry. He is enlisted to fight in the Civil War for the Union. He started off wanting to enlist, but because he's now being force he doesn't want to. Jim Conklin is the only other character we meet in this chapter and he's a solider that spreads a rumor that they are going to battle the next day. The next day comes and his rumor turns out to be false and the other soldiers are upset at the lie. Henry is thinking of all the possibilities and sometimes doubts his decision. He wants to be courageous, but he's starting to get scared and he doesn't know what to do.
